Education and Accomplishments

After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School, James Loots spent his career advising small businesses, associations, and nonprofit organizations on employment law, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, and organizational planning. He earned his undergraduate degree in journalism from Northwestern University, an experience he credits with shaping his approach to consulting: careful listening, clear communication, and a focus on understanding each client's specific situation before offering guidance.

Throughout his career, James Loots has been an active member of the Washington DC community. He has served as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner on Capitol Hill, as a board member of the Capitol Hill Community Foundation, and as a supporter of human rights organizations and arts institutions across the District. He was named Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year by the DC Bar in 1987 and has been recognized with the Super Lawyers peer designation from 2018 through 2024. For more than 30 years, Jim has maintained the highest possible Martindale-Hubbell "AV" Rating for outstanding ethical standards and quality of representation to his clients.
